Overview
Control and Staking for Live-Traffic Interchange Work
When a Highway 36 interchange added auxiliary lanes and rebuilt two ramps, the prime contractor needed survey control that survived live traffic — plus night-shift staking that never delayed the paving train.

Challenge
Millimetre Stakes Beside 65-mph Traffic
Paving tolerances allowed just millimetres of error, control points had to survive heavy construction traffic, and all staking windows fell at night when lanes closed.
Approach
Protected Control, Night Crews
We set a braced control network on protected offsets outside the work zone, verified nightly before each shift, and staked paving, barrier and drainage with robotic instruments — feeding machine-control models to the graders.
Final ride smoothness passed on first inspection; as-builts closed the project file.
Deliverables
Corridor control, night staking, machine models, final as-builts.
Result
Paving passed first inspection; zero survey-caused delays across the season.
