Project — Digital Mapping

Downtown Corridor Mapping

Overview

A Design-Ready Map of Twelve City Blocks

A landscape architecture firm redesigning a downtown corridor needed current base mapping — buildings, sidewalks, trees, utilities — across twelve blocks where the city's GIS was a decade out of date.

First Delivery

GIS base map compiled for the downtown corridor project

Challenge

Flying Safely in a Busy Downtown

Tall buildings block GPS, pedestrians fill the sidewalks and the airspace needed FAA authorization. Ground crews alone would have taken weeks of lane closures.

Approach

Drones Plus Boots on the Ground

We secured LAANC authorization, flew early-morning missions with rooftop ground control, and paired the aerial data with ground verification of utilities, inlets and tree sizes.

Designers received orthophotos, 1-foot contours, GIS layers and CAD base files — all within a week.

Deliverables

Orthophotos, contours, GIS layers, CAD base map and accuracy report.

Result

Design started two weeks early with zero field revisits requested.
